Immunization Program

Immunization--A Family Affair Program

For well over a decade, the National Medical Association (NMA) has actively participated in developing national immunization policy by serving on advisory committees to federal programs that provide national leadership on immunization policies and practices (e.g., Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC), and the Vaccine Advisory Committee of the Food Drug Administration). In addition, beginning in 1995 the NMA has had two cooperative agreements with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Immunization Program (NIP), to strengthen efforts to provide outreach education and training to its membership on effective immunization policies and practices. The NMA’s Immunization- A Family Affair Program (IMFAM) is a national minority focused immunization outreach initiative targeted to African American and other minority physicians; other health care providers and underserved communities aimed at promoting a positive lifetime approach to preventing vaccine related diseases.
